“We are currently nurturing some 100 trees, which we would like to distribute to schools, crèches and community centres as part of a wider approach to raise awareness. As furniture makers we are also consumers of trees, so we would like to ‘return’ the wood in some way and believe that we can ‘green’ areas in poorer communities, for instance, and at the same time, contribute to their wellbeing.”

Our People
Norman Meyer comes from the German community in Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal, where his father works at a sawmill. His early memories of playing in sawdust has instilled in him a deep passion for wood. Following his travels overseas and experience sustained in the construction sector, Norman studied at Furntech on the Saasveld Campus of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

There he met Abrie von Wielligh with whom he started Meyer von Wielligh in 2004. “I find inspiration in nature, travel

and other cultures. I am especially interested in the great variety of types and styles of furniture that has been created throughout the ages.”

Born and bred in Namibia, Abrie von Wielligh studied at Furntech on the Saasveld Campus of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. His passion for nature and the outdoors contributes to his enjoyment of natural materials and challenging furniture design. “I am inspired by nature and believe we must return what we remove. As manufacturers of natural products such as trees, it is essential for us to actively ‘give back’ and pursue environmental sustainability in as many ways as possible.”

Supported by experienced and committed staff, the Meyer von Wielligh team includes specialist cabinet makers, spray painters and other skilled personnel. “Our people enjoy being creative and the result of their labour of love can be witnessed in the high quality products and service our clients receive."
